Online retailer Wine Country Gourmet handles 10-fold increase in holiday business

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Dec. 26, 2004 – Wine Country Gourmet, an Internet gourmet gift basket retailer, had its best holiday sales ever. Using a system from American Web Services, the retailer handled more orders in December than the entire rest of the year.

Because of the perishable nature of many of the products the retailer sells, American Web Services customized an ArrowClick Software e-commerce system to connect all the individual vendors. When someone orders a gift basket, the system issues notifications to all the vendors that provide the products for that basket to ensure that only the freshest items arrive for the customer.

While the big seasons for Wine Country Gourmet are the Christmas season, Valentine’s Day, and Mother’s Day, they do a healthy corporate gift business all year long. "Whether it’s Secretary’s Day or Christmas, everyone seems to wait to the last minute to order," said Manny Cabranes, President. "We wouldn’t be able to manage the flood of orders without American Web Services."
